News update from Ethiopia…

24Jan11

Staff from Pelican Post partner charity Link Ethiopia (www.linkethiopia.org) recently returned from a trip to the region where they delivered books donated by pelican post supporters who attended various events held last year.

They also made a trip to visit (and deliver books) to 2 remote village school communities near Lake Rana.  These village schools have a desperate shortage of books to fuel childrens learning and are almost wholly dependent on the services of a  travelling donkey library that makes regular visits to the area.   The books from this travelling library are currently stored in orange crates with many worn and in some state of disrepair through years of use.

The charity – Link Ethiopia is now supporting these schools with various projects underway including the delivery of brand new saddle bags to ensure the safer storage of the travelling book collection in the future.

We  hope to report in more detail about the donkey library schools and their progress in the future through news updates from visiting staff.  In the meantime, thanks to Matt for these pictures and to pelican post supporters who helped to furnish both the schools and the donkey library with a fresh supply of brand new books to read…
